Tel Megiddo National ParkConquered by Joshua, fortified by Solomon, and later taken by Pharaoh Necho.
The Old Testament recounts that Megiddo (מגידו = in Hebrew) was one of the cities conquered by Joshua upon entering the Promised Land.
King Solomon (שלמה = in Hebrew, Shlomo) fortified it as a central capital of his kingdom.
King Ahaziah (אֲחַזְיָה = in Hebrew, Ahaziah) died in Megiddo during King Jehu’s campaign against Ahab’s successors.
Later, when Pharaoh Necho fought against Judea, King Josiah (יֹאשִׁיָּהוּ = in Hebrew, Yoshiyahu) was killed in Megiddo. As Josiah was a righteous king who followed the Holy Scriptures, his death at Megiddo became a symbolic reference in Christian prophecy to the final battle between good and evil — Armageddon (הר מגידו = in Hebrew, Har Megiddo, Mount Megiddo).Joshua’s conquest: Joshua 12:21
Solomon’s fortification: 1 Kings 9:15
Death of King Ahaziah: 2 Kings 9
